What Is Your Goal (or What Do You Want to do)?
Well, you’d think that was an easy one wouldn’t you!
Failing to sit down with a plan on what you want to do, or what you want to achieve, is mostly why over 95% of online businesses fail. In fact, if you’re looking to make money online, over 90% of businesses don’t earn enough to buy a pizza or cover their running costs. Frightening isn’t it?
A good place to start is to ask yourself “Why Do I Want To Start An Online Business?”. Some obvious answers are;
- You are looking to make money online.
- You want to teach someone something.
- You’re looking to setup/expand a community group.
- You want to promote a specific lifestyle.
- You looking to promote your ideas or philosophies.
- You want to support someone/something.
- You simply want to be recognized/famous.
Once you work out the why, it is much easier to work out how you’re going to achieve your goal.
Naturally you will need a plan, and despite a lot of rhetoric to the contrary, there is no such thing as one-size-fits-all with an online business, or any business for that fact. You will have very different audiences each with very different wants and needs and each of your audience will relate to you in different ways. For example, Will you need a blog website or an e-com store? Will you need to create videos or find the latest bargains?
So, answering the Why do I want to start an online business question will often answer the What do I want to do (or goal) question. Pretty obvious really. But many just try to jump in without a goal and without a plan and wonder why they drown.
At this point your Goal is set and should be your main focus. How you get there or even the route you take will change and evolve as you move into the planning and implementation stages.
Now that you know what your goal is, the next step is figuring out how to get there – That’s where life gets really interesting!
